A. Janae Diminick is a fiction writer with an adoration for monsters, horror, and the undead. She gravitates towards creating character driven post-apocalyptic novels layered with high emotional tension and morally gray relationships. In much of her work, she uses intimacy as a psychological battlefield and isn’t shy about challenging conventional expectations. Not a fan of stories that end happily ever after, her writing often leans into darker, more unsettling resolutions.
Born in 1991, A. Janae Diminick grew up in a military family, where she spent her childhood packing boxes and crossing various borders. She’s been telling stories since she was four years-old and began putting them to paper nearly a decade later. Her early life taught her how to navigate chaos with grit and humor, lessons that deepened after a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in 1995. A few near-death experiences influenced her fascination with all things dark, strange, and macabre.
Although her childhood was spent filling notebooks with handwritten tales, it was A. Janae Diminick’s 10th grade English teacher, Jamie K. Spatola (daughter of former Duke University basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski), who changed the trajectory of her life. Recognizing something rare in her writing, Spatola introduced her to a world of publication, having read her poems and essays and encouraging her toward youth anthologies.
A. Janae Diminick’s short essay “We’ll Escape Together” appeared in the Spring 2007 edition of Celebrate What Is Important To Me by Creative Communications, Inc. That same year, her poem “Introverts” was published in Celebrate! Young Poets Speak Out. She went on to publish “Willie’s Gift” in the 2007 Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans (Vol. LXIV), followed by “The Lasting Call” in the 2008 edition (Vol. IX).
After graduating high school in 2009, A. Janae Diminick shifted her focus from novels to screenplays and spent two years working on short films in California. Her IMDB credentials can be found here. In 2014, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing & English from Southern New Hampshire University.
Now a married mom in a blended family of nine, A. Janae Diminick survives on coffee, energy drinks, and wine. When not working on her next novel, she enjoys baking, attending renaissance faires, and building hermit crab enclosures. Her children make fun of her for it, but there’s a reason those pinchy buggers are still alive after all these years.
